Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment that uses laser technology—in other words, a concentrated beam of light—to reduce the growth of unwanted hair.

Which Areas Can Be Treated?

The Laser Hair Removal treatment areas include: 

Partial and full face, with 15-minute treatments for partial and 30-minute treatments for full, performed every four to six weeks

Front of neck, with 15-minute treatments performed every four to six weeks

Underarms, with 15-minute treatments performed every six to eight weeks

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Many clients see results, such as shedding and reduced regrowth, a few weeks after their first Laser Hair Removal treatment. However, for optimal and long-lasting results, multiple sessions are necessary. This is because not all hair follicles are in the anagen, or growth, phase at the same time, and the laser is most effective during this phase. Hair in the anagen phase contains the most melanin, which the laser targets to disable the follicle.

Most clients require six to eight sessions for the majority of hair follicles to be effectively treated and to achieve a permanent reduction in hair growth.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Laser Hair Removal

Preparation for your Laser Hair Removal treatment can start at home. To get the most out of your service, shave the treatment area within the 24 hours leading up to your appointment. You should also avoid using lotions or oils on the treatment area before your appointment, as this may interfere with the laser’s effectiveness, and drink plenty of water before and after the session, as water will keep the skin hydrated to promote faster healing. On the day of the treatment (if targeting the neck or underarms) wear loose, comfortable clothing that will allow your provider to easily access the treatment area.

Before your first appointment, your Skin Laundry expert will assess your skin and hair type and ask you about your hair removal goals. Your provider will then take a photo (which will remain private) to help you track your hair-removal journey at Skin Laundry. 

After cleansing the treatment area, your Skin Laundry provider will apply a cooling, water-based gel to your treatment area, and the Laser treatment will begin. The treatment will take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on which area being treated, and you can expect minimal discomfort. 

Aftercare for Laser Hair Removal 

In the 24 hours following the treatment, normal reactions include mild redness, swelling or a mild sunburn-like sensation on the treatment area for up to 24 hours.  During that time, it’s best to avoid direct sun exposure and use a 30+ SPF on the neck or face, if it’s been treated. Our medical team also advises avoiding exercise, hot tubs, hot showers and saunas for 24 to 48 hours after treatment.

Hair on the treatment may shed over the next three weeks after a service as a natural part of the healing process.  You may also experience stubble on the treatment area as part of the shedding process; this, too, is a normal reaction.
